Chad Gutstein is a broad-based media and entertainment executive and entrepreneur with a proven track record building, turning around and managing growing businesses at the intersection of media, entertainment & technology. As an operator, investor and banker, Chad has completed transactions totaling nearly $8 billion.
Chad is Founder & President of Entertainment Media Advisors (EMA), a strategic consultancy advising companies at the intersection of media, technology & entertainment.
Most recently, Chad served as Chief Executive Officer of Machinima, leading the turnaround from a failing Multichannel Network (MCN) into a many-2-many programming service and premium content studio. Under Chad’s stewardship, Machinima was successfully sold to Warner Bros. in November 2016. Chad exited Machinima in April 2017 with a 91% Glassdoor CEO rating.
Prior to Machinima, Chad was COO of the Ovation television network, America’s only national arts-focused network. Under his stewardship, Ovation grew to a profitable business, expanding its distribution more than ten-fold to nearly 55M households.
Previous experience includes roles at BuyTV and WaterView Advisors. Chad began his career in investment banking with the firms Alex. Brown & Sons and Rothschild.
Chad serves on the Board of Directors for Critical Content, and previously served as a Director of Machinima, the Interactive Advertising Bureau’s Digital Video Center of Excellence and the Global Online Video Association. Chad served as Associate Producer on Icarus, winner of the 2018 Academy Award for Documentary Feature. He holds an MBA from Columbia Business School and a BA in Economics from The Johns Hopkins University.
