Published author with over 30 years of experience in the publishing industry as an Executive Editor in trade, academic, library-reference, and higher education textbook publishing.
I have a unique ability to work with authors to develop successful proposals that then become strong selling texts. I enjoy working with authors to help them develop their manuscripts to more clearly and successfully express their ideas. Even at the proposal stage, I will work with potential authors to make sure that the material sent out for review makes the best possible case for their project. I also have a strong track record working with younger academics and am pleased that many have enjoyed long and successful publishing careers in the field.
My broad background in the humanities has led me to publish widely even within the subject areas of music and art as I believe my select list of signings shows. I am a quick, self-motivated worker; I have a wide network of scholars and friends developed over the years. I am a hands-on editor and value maintaining a personal touch in all of my work.
While for the last decade or so I have primarily worked as an Executive Editor in the textbook market, I have continued to be active as a trade author. I won a Grammy Award in 2018 for best liner notes for the release, Sissle and Blake Sing Shuffle Along. My recent book, Godfather of the Music Business (U of Mississippi Press) was awarded a “Best Music Industry Book” award from the Association of Recorded Sound Collections and named a top ten music biography of the year by Little Steven. My latest book, Country Music: A Very Short Introduction, was published by Oxford University Press last November.
