Greg Babiuk 917-370-2305 gregbabiuk@gmail.com September 11, 2020   Dear Condé Nast Entertainment, The moment my boss said “…Sports Illustrated should have been ESPN” it all came together for me. I had left the TV commercial world and was working at an agency specializing in entertainment and branded content. When I heard those words I realized there was a great opportunity in leveraging brand, platform, and content – in unison – not merely to sell to a consumer but to build a loyal audience. Nowhere is this opportunity more applicable than in media companies, especially those with roots in publishing. Publishing is where ideas and communities first begin to take shape. That’s where I wanted to be. I am thrilled to be submitting my credentials for the position as Executive Producer, Bon Appetit and Epicurious at Condé Nast Entertainment. For the past 20 years I’ve served as an Executive Producer on many successful engagements. I launched ESPN Deportes for ESPN, ran a design agency that rebranded Comedy Central, BET, and Cartoon Network and developed and produced an animated series for SpikeTV. In addition to television projects, I served as the Executive Producer for the launch of the Kaiser Permanente Center for Total Health in Washington DC, developed a brand film for Chipotle, and ran NBCUniversal’s marketing campaign and event media for their 2014 Upfront. I’ve had a varied and deep experience in the industry and have been lucky to have had extraordinary mentors. I’ve also made a variety of mistakes along the way. I’ve learned a lot from each one of those mistakes. I’ve learned to recognize great creative and how best to bring it to any screen or device. I’ve learned that building a creative team is simply about casting the right people in the right roles and giving them what they need to do an excellent job. I’ve learned to manage a creative team – at times having to handle difficult individuals and interpersonal friction with both superiors and subordinates. And I’ve learned to listen, build trust, and work collaboratively to create the best solutions because the best Producers always have to find the best solution. I’ve learned that in the end it’s not the individual activities that matter but how those individual activities work together for something greater. Through my varied experiences I’ve developed a deep understanding of the multiple concurrent processes involved in creating media, which allows me to supervise production more effectively and fine-tune the process to greater efficiency. Personally, I’m a fan of both the Bon Appetit and Epicurious brands. I search Epicurious several times a week for menu inspirations and recipes. They are premium brands with quality talent and content. Although there is a lot of competition in this category, Bon Appetit and Epicurious are both well respected. Still, there is substantial room for them to grow, especially in film and video. Growing your audience through creating an honest dialogue and providing value to your community through your content is ultimately the goal. Where food and culture meet – there is a lot of opportunity in that idea. I realize the Executive Producer opportunity encompasses a certain set of activities and not necessarily everything I touched on in this letter. I have always felt that understanding the whole business helps to inform the individual activities that make up that business. It also aligns with my interest in the Executive Producer opportunity itself. Professionally, I’ve been in service to brands and businesses for many years. Although in my capacity as an Executive Producer, I’ll always be in service to someone or some thing, I’m looking to become part of a larger organization, to be part of the brand that I serve. I see that opportunity in this position – the opportunity to leverage my expertise and experience for the benefit of Bon Appetit and Epicurious and be a part of that greater whole. I hope you consider me for this position, I know I would be a great asset to Condé Nast Entertainment. Thanks for taking the time to review my application. Greg Babiuk
